What this calculator does
It converts each of your four TCF Canada results to an NCLC (CLB) level using IRCC's official equivalency table, shows the CEFR letter and Quebec level for each score, compares your levels with the language thresholds of Express Entry programs, the French-language category, Francophone Mobility and Quebec programs, and estimates your CRS language points. It does not calculate your full CRS score or decide whether you are eligible for a program.

CRS language points for French
This calculator shows language-related CRS points based on the information entered. It does not calculate your complete Express Entry CRS score. Your total CRS score depends on additional factors such as age, education, work experience and other applicable criteria.
| NCLC per ability | Without a spouse | With a spouse |
|---|---|---|
| 10 or more | 34 | 32 |
| 9 | 31 | 29 |
| 8 | 23 | 22 |
| 7 | 17 | 16 |
| 6 | 9 | 8 |
| 4 or 5 | 6 | 6 |
| Below 4 | 0 | 0 |
With NCLC 7 or higher in all four French abilities, you also get 25 additional points for French, and another 25 (50 in total) if your English is CLB 5 or higher in all four abilities. Any other English result, or no English test, stays at 25 (Ministerial Instructions for Express Entry, section 32). Skill transferability points that combine language with education or work experience need CLB 7 or higher in all four abilities (up to 25 per combination), or CLB 9 or higher in all four (up to 50). Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between CLB and NCLC?
CLB (Canadian Language Benchmarks) is the scale for English and NCLC (Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens) is the same scale for French. The levels match, so NCLC 7 in French is the same benchmark as CLB 7 in English. IRCC converts each TCF Canada result to an NCLC level.
Does CEFR B2 automatically mean NCLC 7?
No. The CEFR letter (A1 to C2) is printed on your attestation by France Éducation International; NCLC is the Canadian scale IRCC uses, and IRCC's TCF Canada conversion table decides your NCLC. A B2 is NCLC 6 or 7 in listening (scores 400–499) and NCLC 5 to 8 in reading. In speaking and writing, B2 (10–13 out of 20) is NCLC 7 or 8.
Why are speaking, writing, reading and listening calculated separately?
TCF Canada gives a separate result for each of the four abilities, and IRCC converts each one on its own; the four are never averaged. Programs set a minimum level for each ability, and many require it in all four, so a strong result in one ability does not make up for a weaker one.
What does the score gap mean?
It is the difference between your current score and the minimum official score for your target level in that ability. For example, NCLC 7 in listening starts at 458, so a listening score of 410 has a gap of 48 points. It is not a prediction of how long preparation will take or of your next result.
Does NCLC 7 guarantee Express Entry eligibility?
No. NCLC 7 in all four abilities meets the language threshold for programs such as the Federal Skilled Worker Program and the French-language proficiency category, but every program has other requirements, and category-based rounds have their own instructions. Meeting a language threshold does not on its own make you eligible.
How can I improve my TCF Canada speaking or writing score?
Practise the real task types under exam timing, get corrections on each answer, and keep a list of the mistakes that come back. Fix one recurring error type at a time, then redo the task on a new theme. Ouizami offers TCF Canada-style speaking and writing practice with detailed feedback on every task.
